Contrary to expectations of a market downturn, home prices sustained an upward trajectory throughout 2023, primarily attributed to a disparity in housing supply and demand - demand significantly outweighing active listings. This trend appears poised to persist into 2024. Recent assessments by industry authorities such as Fannie Mae, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), and the National Association of Realtors (NAR) present a model supporting sustained increases in home prices. Although the projected price increase for 2024 might be modest compared to 2023, the cumulative effect of home price appreciation cannot be overlooked. This aspect underscores the long-term benefits of homeownership.
While 2023 didn't produce wide-sweeping, robust home sales due to a deficit in inventory, the projections for 2024 indicate a positive shift. This uptick could revitalize the market, offering opportunities for both buyers and sellers.
